Coronavirus Advice to Contact 111

Current advice on when to contact NHS 111 for anything relating to Coronavirus.

Advice to the public is to contact NHS 111 if an individual has been:


  • to Hubei province in China in the last 14 days
  • to Iran, areas of northern Italy in lockdown or "special care zone" areas in South Korea since 19 February
  • to other parts of mainland China or South Korea, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath
  • to other parts of northern Italy (anywhere north of Pisa, Florence and Rimini), Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar since 19 February and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath
  • in close contact with someone with confirmed coronavirus


Travel advice for patients


If you have travelled from the follow areas to the UK in the last 14 days:-


  • Wuhan city and Hubei Province


If you have travelled from the follow areas to the UK since 19 February:-


  • Iran
  • Any Italian town under containment measures
  • Daegu or Cheongdo (Republic of Korea)


You should take the following action immediately (even if you do not have symptoms):


  • stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as they would with the flu
  • call NHS 111 to inform them of their recent travel to the area


This advice applies to travellers who have returned to the UK from the following areas in the last 14 days (unless from a date specified):


  • China
  • Hong Kong
  • Japan
  • Macau
  • Malaysia
  • Republic of Korea
  • Singapore
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand
  • North Italy defined as a line above, but not including Pisa, Florence and Rimini (travelled back since 19 February)
  • Vietnam (travelled back since 19 February)
  • Cambodia (travelled back since 19 February)
  • Laos (travelled back since 19 February)
  • Myanmar (travelled back since 19 February)


And develop symptoms of cough or fever or shortness of breath, you should immediately:


  • stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
  • call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the country


If you meet these criteria please do not go to your GP practice, healthcare centre or a hospital. Contact NHS 111, stay indoors and avoid contact.
